Magic Keyboard backlight does not turn on automatically in dark environments

Hello all!

I recently purchased an 11” iPad Pro (2021, M1) and the black Magic Keyboard. Since I’ve used the Magic Keyboard, the backlight on the keyboard does not turn on automatically when in a pitch-black dark room.

I’ve already tried force restarting the iPad, connected and disconnected from the Magic Keyboard. The auto brightness on my iPad is already enabled. I am able to control the backlight manually in Settings, but the whole point is that the keyboard should do it on its own.

Any and all help is much appreciated!

Pax Christi.

Hello Richard Fernandez,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities!

We see that your Magic Keyboard auto brightness is not working, but it works when you manually change the brightness from the iPad settings.

We’d be happy to help you!

Make sure your iPad is up to date through the steps in Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch first.

If the issue persists on the newest software, you can contact Apple Support directly through Contact Apple Support for more troubleshooting.

Take care.
