Calendar to email link not working

I upgraded from Catalina to Big Sur yesterday. Under Catalina I had this problem off and on. After upgrading things worked. This morning things worked. Now they don't, so don't think it's a Big Sur specific issue. I can create events in the Calendar from emails with dates in them. However, in Calendar, the "Show in Email" link back is not working. This is a pretty important feature for me. The tech who helped me with my upgrade yesterday acted like this should work, and after the upgrade it did so I didn't pursue the issue further. Now I need it to work.

Hey Linairs,

It sounds like the Mail app has multiple issues. We'd recommend isolating it further by testing this in another user on your Mac. Do you have other user accounts already? If so, log in to that user and test if the issues persists there in the Mail app.

In case you need to create a user to test this, you'd use the following to set up a new Administrator account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac Log in to that new user on your Mac and set up the Mail app with your email account. Test the issue by trying to create an event again from the Mail app.

Should the issue persist in the other user, then you'd want to back up your Mac and reinstall the macOS: How to reinstall macOS

If the issue doesn't occur in the other user, then it's user-specific. You'd want to go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, select your normal user account > Login Items and remove any login items that aren't familiar to you. Select them and then (-) at the bottom to remove them. This doesn't remove them from the computer, but it will stop them from opening automatically when you log in. Reboot the Mac, then test it out. Should the issue continue, then you'd want to Contact Apple Support

Wishing you a good week, take care!

Hello Linairs,

If you tap a date/time in the Apple Mail app to create an event, in the New Event window, you should see an option for Calendar. Here you can select different Calendars to test out. We'd recommend selecting a Calendar that isn't Google, since that's what you've been using in the past. For example, if you have an option to select an iCloud Calendar or 'On iPhone' select one of those and create the event.

In the Calendar app, open the event and test if the 'Show in Mail' option works for that other Calendar or not.

Basically, this isolates if this only occurs when synced to the Google Calendar or not.

Let us know what you find.

Cheers!

Hello Linairs,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, the 'Show in Mail' link isn't working when you open events in the Calendar app. We'll do our best to assist.

To isolate the issue, we'd start by testing this depending on the Calendar used and then by mail service provider. Meaning, we'd create the event using different calendars (like iCloud, Google, etc.). Then test if this only happens when adding from a specific email provider.

Does it help to open the Info page within Calendar? You can right click the event, select 'Get Info' to see the details of the event. Does the 'Show in Mail' option work when you use this method?

If you were working on this specific issue with Apple Support, you may want to reconnect with them for further support: Contact Apple Support

Hi Linairs,

It sounds like you've done all you can do by reinstalling macOS. At this point, we'd recommend to Contact Apple Support, if you haven't already.

You mentioned that all of your emails aren't showing up after reinstalling. This may be expected behavior, as the Mac reindexes the system. It might take some time to reindex, depending on how much data is on the Mac. However, this should be resolved given a few days to sync.

Take care.
