I know this sounds strange, but something is causing Apple News to open every time I click on Safari > Safari Extensions AND does the same when I click through Safari > Preferences> More Extensions. Any ideas how to fix this?
Go step by step and test.
1. Update Safari, if an update is available. Update may come with bug fixes.

2. Quit Safari, launch Safari holding the Shift key down.

Please read the article before clearing history,
this is like a low level resetting of Safari without affecting passwords and bookmarks.
5. If Safari doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected
Download EtreCheck: https://etrecheck.com/ and post the report here.
Click, “Free Download” button and then “Click to download” button,
open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.
Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.
Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar and select “Copy report”.
Click the “Page” button in the toolbar at the bottom of this page and paste it when you reply.
Note: This is a diagnostic test.
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately none of those worked. I also ran First Aid and it did not fix it. .
