Keyboard not connected to my laptop??

i was on my computer and for no apparent reason, the cursor froze. Eventually I managed to restart the computer, but when it restarted I got a message called Bluetooth Keyboard Setup, and it says there isn’t a keyboard connected.

Ugh. I was never trying to set up a bluetooth keyboard, and have never used one. (Why would I on a laptop??) If I could move my cursor I might be able to get into Settings and straighten this out, but my cursor is still frozen. Can’t force quit cuz it thinks my keyboard isn’t connected! I don’t have any old keyboards from back in the day when I had a desktop laying around.

Any suggestions on how to make my laptop keyboard work again? TIA

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12

On an Intel Mac you can —

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

if no resolve Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

You can always force quit the Mac by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 secs

Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac - Apple ...
