I was having the same issue. I installed the latest software update and it updated the Apple TV app as well. Prior to the Sony software update the Apple TV version was 2.2. After the Sony update it was 5.1.

Glad I figured it out. Hope this helps anyone else out. Nothing more frustrating than buying a $1200 tv and stuff not working.

I figured it out. I bought a new Sony Bravia TV from Costco yesterday and installed it. I could login to all apps to watch tv as well as our cable. But I couldn’t login to Apple+TV at all. I kept getting a message that login failed. I did everything (changed my password, cleared data and cleared cache, etc) and nothing worked. I read on a different thread to “agree to all” on the PRIVACY setting on the Sony TV. I tried it and low and behold, it worked! I got a QR code when I attempted to login to Apple+TV so I scanned it with my phone, it unlocked whatever, and I am now watching Apple+TV on my Sony Bravia TV! (8-5-2022)

To use the Apple TV app, AirPlay, and HomeKit, you will need to enable the Sony Smart TV services by accepting the BRAVIA TV Privacy Policy. If you experience Apple TV access or connection issues when pairing to an Apple device using the AirPlay app, follow these steps:

  1. On your supplied TV remote, press the HELP button.
  2. Go to Status & Diagnostics, and then select Privacy settings.
  3. On the Privacy Policy screen, read the privacy policy, if you agree, scroll down to the very bottom of the policy, and then agree, at least with respect to Sony Smart TV services, or select the Agree all option if you desire.
  4. On the TV remote control, press the Input button, and then select AirPlay from the input selection to display the AirPlay menu.

If this is for a new Apple ID account, then verify that the account information, including payment method, is complete and validated. If this is for an account that is also in use on other devices (e.g. on iPhone), then the issue is probably elsewhere.

Verify that the date, time, and timezone are correct and valid on the TV. Secure connections use a timestamp that can’t be off by too much.

If the issue persists, then contact Apple Support.

I have the same TV and FINALLY got it to work. I think the initial issue was that when I set up the TV I didn't check Sony Smart TV Services in the Privacy Settings. Even after selecting it later, it still wouldn't work. I tried just about everything in this thread and didn't have any luck. What did work for me was to go to the Apple TV app settings, clear the data, disable the app. Select the app and select uninstall. Go to the privacy settings and uncheck the Sony Smart TV Services along with the other options. Then select them back and Agree. Install the app. Log in with the phone option and use the QR code.

Don’t forget to restart your TV. I recently purchased a Sony Bravia, removed and reinstalled (and updated) the Apple TV+ app, did a software update on the TV and accepted the privacy policies. Even after force stopping the app and clearing the data for good measure, none of that worked.

It was when I restarted the TV that it issued a newer privacy policy to agree to and checked for the latest software. Then I was able to login

Had the same problem. Went to level 2 of Apple support, changed Apple-Id password 3 times. 2-3 hours with Apple support. No luck. Read this thread. Did an update to the TV. Turned the TV back on after it finished updating, and selected the Apple TV+ app, but chose not to attempt to login. After being directed to the Apple TV+ selection screen I chose Settings and then Accounts. Prior to the TV update I had done this numerous times and all was offered was the opportunity to login with Apple-Id and password, which failed for verification every time. This time I had an option to use a QR code. Scanned it with my iPhone, and completed the login from my iPhone. Sucess! I was logged in to the Sony.

The same thing was happening to us. We had a frustrating night of trying to sign in. We updated and nothing. When I turned off the TV at the end of the evening a message came up regarding the software update. The next morning, VOILA! I went to sign into Apple TV, the QR code came up and we are back in business. So the TV has to be turned off then on in order for the software update to take effect. Fingers crossed it works for you.

After spending hours over hours trying to solve it, going through endless suggested solutions which none of them worked, the solution finally came in a very unexpected way.

yes. It has something to do with the security permissions, but not through the TV setup (or at least I didn’t find how to get to it from there).

This is what worked for me - just connect your iPhone to the TV using AirPlay. Once you’ll do that you’ll be asked to approve some privacy screen. Go ahead and approve it (need to scroll down, confirm and then push proceed) and that’s it!

now you can disconnect the AirPlay, open the Apple TV app and you’ll see it gives you now an option to connect to your account using QR code (not presented previously). I used the QR code and connected immediately. You can also login by typing your user and password,

i’m with a new Bravia X85k, from Dec 2022, but I believe this should work with other Sony models too.

Hope that helps and work for others too.
