copy/paste garageband automation

I am trying to copy automation points from one GarageBand track to another. I followed the directions in the user guide (below) but nothing is copying. Has anyone used this and had success?

Copy automation between tracks

In GarageBand on Mac, hold down Shift while dragging a selection within the automation area.
Choose Edit > Copy (or press Command-C).
Select the track you want to copy the automation to.
Choose Edit > Paste (or press Command-V).

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It appears that you're having some trouble with GarageBand automation between tracks. Have you followed all the steps listed in this article? Copy and move automation in GarageBand on Mac
