iphone sent to apple for repair, stolen in transit

Anyone have this happen? Apple sent me a prepaid fedex box to ship my broken phone back to them for repair… sent it… just got an email from apple saying the box was empty when they got it. (It actually made it sound like they had just received the box back and they presumed the courier was unable to deliver it to me? But i had torn off their shipping label addressed to me, which reveals the return label back to them etc etc….). So now what. Do they insure these when they prepay them?

fedex picked it up at my house... the package was delivered to apple but someone stole the phone out of the box apparently. I did talk to apple and they opened the investigation etc... I just didnt think to ask apple if they always insure those packages... I would think that they would but who knows. im trying to find out through apple biz chat... they pay for the shipping... how would I be the one to insure it, know what I mean? they don't even bring that up.
