MacBook Pro has "Global Reset" error on every reboot

My MacBook Pro has a "Global Reset" error on every reboot since a few days. The exact error message in the error report:

Global Reset

GRC0 = 0x00000400

GRC1 = 0x00010001

I recovered macOS and did all updates, but the error is still present. I cannot find anything about the error codes above. What is the problem?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

The only consolation is that I'm not the only one with this set up / reset problem- I have done much of the same testing as described here - reseting and reconfiguring to no avail.

It is frustrating that Apple has not addressed this particularly since most people probably have an after market 2nd monitor connected to their PRO when not traveling. Having to hold and reset the unit to get it to turn on happened after upgrading to Big Sur as well.

Given that my MacBook Pro 13" 2.8GHz Corei7 processor w/Intel Graphics connected to Dell U3219Q display was purchased in 2019, I doubt I will get any attention with Apple, if anyone has a newer Mac or an extended warranty - please update the forum with any solutions from Apple~ In the mean time I am now motivated to cycle out of this set up and upgrade to a new system next year - and giving serious consideration to jumping off the Apple bandwagon.

Same here, after 3 hours at the last upgrade my built-in display went to black. Now, the screen works during the boot (with some issue at the bottom, as you see at the picture), then the sign-in screen just flash-up for a sec and disappear (same after open the uppercase).

Hi all,

I have exactly the same issue. Very annoying!

Somehow I am happy to see, that it seems to be an Apple bug and not a specific defect on my hardware. Nevertheless this is something I am not willing to accept.

My setup:

  • MacBook Pro 13 (2018)
    • 2,7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 500 GB SSD
  • Display 1: Lenovo ThinkVision P24h-20 (has an integrated power supply & USB Hub)
  • Display 2: Acer ED273 connected via original Apple HDMI adapter
  • macOS Monterey 12.0.1

Both monitors plugged in lead to this error message when I attemp to reboot:

Global Reset

GRC0 = 0x00000400

GRC1 = 0x00010001

Shutdown doesn't work properly. I need to hold down power button for 4 seconds before I can start my Macbook again.

I will try to open a ticket at Apple, too. Happy to hear what you all can find out.

Not to throw a wrench into the sleuthing… but I just got this error message. I am using my iMac (2020) and am on the Monterey 12.0.1 OS. My computer wouldn’t start yesterday, even holding the button. Today, I tried again before calling AppleCare and it started with a hard reset, but I got that same multi-language error before restart and then the error pop up with the Global Reset.

I have nothing connected to my Mac besides my printer, keyboard and trackpad (all Bluetooth.).

I have the exact same issue as described above. Two Dell 2419HC monitors connected to my 2019 MacBook Pro 13" with 4 thunderbolt ports. I have one monitor connected via USB-C and another via HDMI (using Apple's dongle). I spent hours yesterday with Apple support on the phone, we tried many things, recover MacOS, tested hardware and all is working well. I was getting very frustrated, but thank you for this post, this helps a lot knowing it is a Big Sur issue.

Thanks

Fact 1: All macbook pros 13" 2018/2019 have the exact same issue.

Fact 2: No solution from Apple in over 2 years!

Isn't it incredible, how Apple was able to jus "wait it out", till all our guarantees (even extended Apple Care) are obsolete?

So now we have to live with workarounds, and the culprit has to do ... nothing.

Yeah Apple: Just send us replacements, I'd accept a M1 Max .. but I can't except just being ignored on this topic.
