I’m trying to add my son’s iCloud email address to my apple account but says email unavailable

I am trying add my son’s iCloud email address to my Apple ID account so he can receive iMessage from my old iPad. At present he can receive emails and FaceTime but not imessage. When I try to add the email address to my Apple ID account it says email unavailable. I have only just set up this iCloud address which was available at time?? Can anyone help? Thanks 😊

It sounds like you have created an Apple ID for your son since he has a separate iCloud address. If your son has a different Apple ID, you can't add his ID email addresses to your Apple ID.

Not knowing what you have done to the old iPad, I suggest you do the steps in the article below to make it 'his' iPad. Then set up the iPad using his Apple ID. Once that is done and everything is set up, if he is still having problems with Messages, troubleshoot that problem.

Selling/Giving Away Device.

Set up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

See the Apple Support article(s) below.

Messages - If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime.

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Messages Troubleshooting.

Some things you can try. Do you have access to another WiFi network where you can try? That has worked for several people.
