Homekit: Trigger automations when person is detected?

Can I make an automation that triggers only when a person is detected on a homekit camera?

Sorry if this is off-topic. None of the topics in the list seem appropriate for Homekit questions.

Homekit is able to detect a person (vs an animal or a vehicle). It can notify of the event. But it doesn’t seem offer a way to use this event to trigger an automation.

It's odd that I can get a notification of something, but not trigger an automation from that event.

Am I missing something? Any help appreciated!

kjlynn,

You can set up recording options for when specific motion is detected, as described here Set up security cameras in Home on iPhone though we get that might not be the only thing you want automated.

Providing feedback on what changes you’d like to see within the settings and abilities would be the next step. Apple has a product feedback site set up. Here’s a link: Apple Product Feedback

Thank you.

Thanks for the quick response. I think maybe my question was not very well written. Let me try again:

after adding a camera supporting HomeKit, I can choose to have it send a notification when a person is detected, but not when a vehicle or animal is detected. This is a nice feature.

But when I try to add an automation triggered by this same event, I can’t create one that runs only when the motion is a person. The automation runs regardless of whether is was a person, animal, vehicle or whatever.

So my question: is there a way to trigger an automation only when the motion is a person? If not, why not? Clearly, Homekit knows if it was or wasn’t a person, because it can send alerts for different kinds of motion.

Any help appreciated!

Hello kjlynn,

Sounds like you have a question about using your notifications in Homekit for additional automations and have explored Add a HomeKit accessory to the Home app to try and answer it.

Here is some information about Homekit Secure Video and recording options when a notification is received. Set up security cameras in Home on iPhone

Additionally, here’s some information about how to set up automations, it may be that you need to explore what options are available for your accessory: Create scenes and automations with the Home app

Thanks.
