iCloud Drive Sync Pending

Hi all,

I'm running the latest version of Windows 10, have a suped-up hard-wired internet connection with speeds of 1.2 GB per second. Also, I have 256 MB of iCloud storage.

Last night I uploaded my 80 MB iTunes library from Windows by dragging my iTunes library to the iCloud drive using Windows File Explorer. While all the folders seem to be uploaded - viewing them using Apple's iCloud for Windows or my iPhone and iPad - none of the actual files are there.

The folders are all empty and the files, when I view them from File Explorer, all say "Sync Pending".

Is this normal, i.e, does it take some time for the sync to happen?

When I use Google's One Drive or MS One Drive, the files upload immediately and I can see them across all of my different platforms.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greetings, MikeK1313!

From your post it sounds like you are having an issue related to completing that upload to iCloud Drive. We’re glad that you reached out to the Apple Support Communities and want to try and help get you some helpful information.

The message that you are seeing, as you’ve guessed, is to let you know that the synchronization has not completed. Sometimes, this is related to the connection. Are you able to test the PC on another network to see if there are any issues? A VPN or other types of security software could also present challenges to a connection by blocking the ports needed to complete the upload.

If you're still having trouble, try reinstalling iCloud for Windows by uninstalling it first. Follow the steps under "Turn off or uninstall iCloud for Windows" here: Set up and use iCloud for Windows - Apple Support.

Have an awesome rest of your day!

Hi Karina,

Thank you for responding so quickly.

I did all of your suggestions before I actually reached out to the Community as I saw previous threads on the same issue. Still, nothing is uploading. In Microsoft File Explorer, everything in my iCloud drive is showing as "Sync Pending". When I go to iCloud.com, all the folders are there but they're all empty.

Two more points:

  1. If I upload from iCloud.com, the files do upload immediately. It's when I drag and drop them using MS File Explorer that I'm having this issue. BTW, this is my preferred method of copying files to the Cloud.
  2. I do not have this problem with Google's My Drive or MS One Drive, i.e. I can upload using MS File Explorer or from Google's or Microsoft's Web apps. Files uploaded this way upload immediately.

Looking forward to your next message.

Michael
