MacBook - Touch ID and password filling don't work

I had a macbook air with i7 2014, and I recently purchased a macbook air m1 2020, both installed with the latest version of macOS Big Sur. I saved my account and session data to time machine on mac 2014. And I restored this time machine on mac m1. I can no longer automatically fill in passwords and users for sites saved in safari by Touch ID, even though it is configured to work. Also, for some reason I can't fill in username and password for sites that were previously saved in safari, I simply select auto fill, but nothing is filled, that's when I disable this function in Touch ID in system preferences. The same thing happens when I click on suggest password, nothing is filled in, no matter which site I enter, even on sites that had passwords saved before. Also the alert notifications are no longer showing up, is this related to me using the recovery of an account on big sur from an older macbook that didn't have Touch ID, but which also had big sur installed on it? In this case this account was using on a macbook air i7 2014. I would appreciate it if someone could help me, as I've tried all possible settings both in Touch ID and in safari, as in notifications in system preferences, and I still have the same problem . To start the macbook the Touch ID works, to access the apple communities here with my login the touchID also works, but in the cases described above it doesn't, and before I started this use of my user by the time machine, this functionality worked Touch ID to automatically fill in passwords and users of sites known and saved in safari and also issue notifications. I do not know what else to do.

Hi barbelives123,

I cannot reboot on safe mode, independently of what I tried, I just couldn't do it.

In my case what worked was to reinstall the macOS Big Sur, without migrating my old session in the time machine, just open the time machine and select the specific documents and apps that I want to reopen.

Thank you anyway.

Best,

Pedro

Hey PedroSBC,

We’d be happy to guide you on booting into safe mode.

  1. “Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window.”

These steps can be found in the article above as well.

Take care.

Hi barbelives123,

Thank you for your reply, but it don't help me. I checked all the options on AutoFill preferences in Safari and checked all the options on Touch ID options, and still not working.

As I said before, to enter here in Apple Community and open the macbook the Touch ID is working. But to AutoFill passwords in Safari doesn't. Even when I disabled the Touch ID, the Safari's AutoFill doesn't work.

I'm stuck here.
