permission to use applications denied

I just bought a MacMini. Transferred files & data from old MacBookPro no problems. When I select one of my primary work applications, I get an error message that says "You do not have permission to open the application....." I'm the administrator. All the files show I have permission to read and write. So why am I getting this message?

Hello, GEBrown!

Congratulations on your new Mac mini! We understand that you are having some trouble opening a specific app after transferring data from your old MacBook Pro to the new mini. You've come to the right place to get help with that permissions error!

First, see if the steps and information found in Open a Mac app from an unidentified developer - Apple Support and Safely open apps on your Mac - Apple Support help get the app to open.

If that doesn't address the issue, check for any macOS updates the Mac mini requires: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support, as well as for updates the app itself may need.

Don't hesitate to respond back if you still cannot open the app.

Cheers!

LB,

Thanx much for your response. Turns out the issue was related to Intel chip jargon vs M1 chip jargon as best I can tell. I had transferred all my data from my backup hard drive thinking it would be transparent. The recalcitrant program was Fusion 360 which ran nicely on my MacBook. But I guess the M1 chip didn’t like the harsh intro and refused to recognize it. So I just downloaded the program again from AutoDesk directly into the Mini, and it has worked nicely. I’ll keep your notes handy in case thee are other problems.

Cheers,

Gerry
