Problem using Messenger on latest iPad Air

My wife regularly uses Messenger to forward pictures or links to friends. The option to do this has now disappeared. This seems to have happened with latest ios14 update. Is this just another squabble between tech giants? My old iPad Air, running ios12.5.4, has no problems. She is very frustrated by this issue as she uses it to send items to our family members who live thousands of miles away.

Apple give the usual “ pdelete the app, reinstall latest version etc,” but it is clearly something to do with iOS update.

Yes, I am talking about the Facebook Messenger app.

I am aware of the little arrow you highlighted, that works OK on both mine and my wife’s machine.

The problem is, as I thought I had made clear, it is not possible to send an image from the ios Photo app, nor a link from the ios Safari app TO FB Messenger, in order to share it with other Messenger users. This problem is a recent one and seems to be something to do with the current ios14 version on the iPad Air4. No Messenger icon is displayed in the Photos app on this machine. The icon IS displayed on my iPad, as it is if I want to share a link on Safari through Messenger.

Earlier today I did a Google search and found a thread on Apple support where over 50 people were experiencing a similar problem with the most recent version of ios14. It seems clear to me that this is a glitch in ios14, either accidental,or deliberate.

when I open the messenger app links and images have a share icon https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/24765669/66438400-d71d6800-ea2c-11e9-9de3-f9096c793f1b.png

to the right of the url / image

clicking that enable one to share it

facebook fully control how their messenger app works so no squabble

if you meant iMessage rather than messenger

then if I click and hold on an image I get a context menu with save, reply copy and more

If I click more I get the option to click a checkbox to the left of the image and an arrow in the bottom of the screen

if I check the checkbox and click the error I start a new message with the image as content

non of the things are things I really do, just did the test after reading your post, so not sure if any of it is something which changed in ios14

Perhaps my explanation was unclear. If I open photos on the machine and wish to share a picture, there is no Messenger icon appearing. Similarly if I wish to share a link from Safari. If something is actually open in Messenger, then it can be shared. Example, this morning my wife wished to send a photo to our daughter, which she normally does from the photo app, the Messenger icon appears and away it goes. Today, no icon. I sent the picture from my old machine to my wife’s Messenger account, she was then able to forward it to our daughter from Messenger. The problem is clearly not with the Messenger app, but with something on the latest iOS update.

. Previously with both of these iOS apps (Photos and Safari) the Messenger icon appeared, as it does with my older machine running iOS 12.5.4.
