CANT DELETE USER UNDER CATALINA 10.15.7

I want to remove a standard user. Under preferences, user and groups I hit lock enter my user password. When I hit the minus key for the user I want to remove, it asks me for the password for that user, when it is entered it shakes and I am stuck on that page. Any suggestions, please!!

I purchased a late 2012 Mac mini running Catalina from a shop that refurbishes them. It came with an account called "user" as admin with no password. I created a new account for myself and cannot seem to delete the "user" account. I go to users and groups, unlock the pad lock, select the "user" and hit the (-). it comes up with a prompt to type in the users password and I hit enter as there is no password on that account. the pop up goes away but the account remains. I have also followed the steps to go into the Director Utility and delete it that way but it also did not work. I found the user, hit the minus, and it remains. I also tried to create a password for the account and it won't let me. Any ideas? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

login window shows list of users instead of just name and password Since installing OS Catalina the login window shows the list of users instead of just name and password, despite the fact, that the user and groups preferences are correctly flagged to name and password and not to list of users. I have tried to find a solution the the problem, but without success. What should I do? Perhaps there exists a terminal command to correct the situation? Many thanks for any help johnblowers

User is deleted, but still shows up on login screen So, had one extra standard user. I deleted the user and all data but when I reach the login screen the user is still visible as an option. And all settings I set to log in with username and password instead of selecting user doesn't work. Nothing I do seem to influence that screen. Running the latest version of Catalina on a Mac Mini.

Verify that user is logged out before you can delete...
