Cloud music library update stuck - new imported music won't sync all of a sudden

Just yesterday this started. Been using iTunes and iCloud Music Library for years and this has never happened. I have Apple Music and iTunes Match. When I rip a CD and add into my iCloud Music Library, the library sync update goes on for hours and won't add the new tracks. I've left it overnight and when I woke up it was still syncing. This was just for one album. I've tried multiple times from my older Mac at home and now from a new MacBook Pro at work and the problem persists.

The new music shows up on my iPhone and other devices, but it's grayed out and gives a dialog box that says the tracks aren't synced. And the actual files in iTunes or Music (or whatever it's called now) just have iCloud status of "waiting" and the sync status is just hanging on "Matching your music" or "uploading music" depending on the

I've trying importing other CDs and new mp3 files and every new file has this problem now. Basically I can't add any of my own music anymore.

I was having the same issue since mid july 2021. I've tried everything: log out/log in, uncheck/check sync, force app quit, restart, update cloud music library, and nothing works... I made some movements today and now it's working for me!! (I don't know if Apple fix it or just me) I share what I did: 1. I quit Apple Music and create a temporary music library holding down the Option key while reopen Music and select "Create a new library" (I named "Temp Music Match Test"). 2. Login in new temporary library with my Apple ID and wait until Cloud music load. 3. I Ripped a new CD and manually File/Library/Update Cloud Library and wait for that process. 4. When finish that process (spinnig wheel stucked stopped magically!) and quit Apple Music (The temporary library). 5. Hold down the Option key while reopen Music in my original Music folder, and wait all process of loading Library...after that, again Update Cloud Library Manually and voila! Hope it works for you.

@josh156: As mentioned in the "Can't upload songs to library for iTunes matching" discussion, I'm running the latest possible macOS and Apple Music on my early 2013 MacBook Pro (i.e., Catalina Version 10.15.7 with Music Version 1.0.6.10). Like I said there, I'm having the same problem. My Library consists of 12,999 tracks mostly in the Apple Lossless format. My current problem involves a classical CD with 12 tracks. I found the tracks in the iTunes Store so, in theory, all should have been matched. After a considerable delay, 7 were matched but the remaining 5 have defied all my efforts to get it to work. Over 24 hours ago, I just left the process running and ended up with "An error occurred". Here is a screenshot of the relevant part of the Activity window:

At least this gives me something to use when I try to move this further up the support chain tomorrow.

Hi Josh,

Just be aware that music that Matched once might not again because music gets withdrawn from the store or re-licensed and removed. Also, new versions get used to replace originals (for example remastered versions) that don't Match successfully. I must say though, I've often felt Matching was a bit arbitrary - I wish there was a way to repeat the process for something that had uploaded - although right now that's asking for a bit much!

Again, same issue with Apple music library updates taking hours to match or upload files. I’ve 89,000 tracks, so a large library for Match, but I’ve never experienced the update process taking so long, appearing to hang, then leaving tracks ‘waiting’. This started about a fortnight ago.

I’d like to remind Apple this is a subscription service, a contract exists that recently they are failing to fulfil.

It has increasingly become Apple’s tactic to ignore, if not openly deny, issues such as this in their operating system and, in my experience, particularly in regard to Apple Music - starting with the introduction of Catalina.

I’m now reconsidering the efficacy of Apple Match as a means of syncing my library across devices - and, to be honest, I’m thoroughly disillusioned with Apple generally. After 20 years, I think it’s time I started seeing other operating systems.

Since my last post on 8/2, I've gone from 7 of 13 track completing to 12 of 13. I contacted Apple support through the 'Support' iOS app and linked to this thread. I was giving the following information:

"As this is already escalated to the senior team they are working on this , if you want I can connect you with my senior team they will let you know the progress of the escalation."

They scheduled a callback with me from the team working the issue. I'll post my updates after that call.

Also after updating to macOS 11.5.1 which has a fix for a music related bug, my Cloud Music Library is still not working as usual. The syncing will not complete, gets stuck. I already tried all remedies, and hoped the macOS update would help, but still the newest album I added won't get uploaded fully, some songs remain greyed out (when I look on my iOS devices) and the music app is stuck on "updating the library".

I have a stand-alone iTunes Match subscription. As I understand it if you have purchased digital Apple music then there's no limit to how much you can store in the Cloud library - I assume they cross-check your account purchases rather than there being any kind of flag on the file itself. If you load anything else then it will count towards the limit. As I mentioned in another post, I have a Sony NW-ZX 300 Music player that I keep in sync with the Music folder on my Mac SSD, so I can live without syncing to my iPhone or iPad (and I also have a Synology NAS that syncs with the same folder so in fact I can access the music on pretty much any device that's to hand). Multiple redundancy across multiple platforms is always good *but doesn't stop me being hacked off with Apple)...

After leaving it overnight, and having only a couple of new songs sync, I went down the Apple Support rabbit hole, and eventually got a phone call from "Maria" who I shared screen with and the only thing we tried that was new was signing out of Apple Music and back in again (to see if there was an incomplete EULA that was hanging things up -- there wasn't, but I wasn't expecting it to be that since it's technically working, just really, really slowly). She did say that there were cases that had been escalated to them, and she sent me an email link to use to escalate it further if things didn't improve in a couple of hours.

Watch this space for updates.

I was having no noticeable trouble as recently as a couple of weeks ago -- just about the time I got my new MacBook (7/19 or 20). I had 5 CDs worth of music that I ripped on my old MacBook (a mid-2012 running Catalina) that synced without a problem, plus another CD that I ripped directly on my new 2020 M1 model. That also synced without difficulty.

Fast forward to yesterday (8/7) and my two most recent CDs are still trying to sync over 24 hours later. So far it's managed to match 10 of 25 tracks (one of them since I was on the phone with Apple Support). Six of them matched yesterday, another 3 overnight, and one since I started banging on it this morning.

This one may take a while to sort out I fear.

I absolutely agree it's nothing to do with the Apple Music app. Like you say, it's been happening with both Mac and PC users. It's also been happening regardless of OS version and the age/type of the hardware involved. The problem seems to lie with the hardware/software Apple uses to run the service.

Also agree it will likely take a while before this is fixed. In the meantime, there's not much doubt that Apple is aware of the problem so I'm just going to sit back with a cold one and wait!
