I want to update my Mac to the high Sierra but it keeps saying the application is damaged. What do I do?

When I try to update my Mac Sierra to high Sierra it keeps saying that the application is damaged. what do I do or what does it means?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.12

The error message is misleading, what it really means is there is a copy of the Install macOS High Sierra.app

in your Applications folder and somehow it is not complete or corrupted.

Locate it move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Connect your mac to your router via cable.

Restart your mac, go back to the App Store High Sierra page

it should now say Get or Download.

Do not use the mac while it is downloading and do not use any other devices that share the same

internet connection.
