Exactly same thing happening here after a small water splash, despite the update to iOS 15.

I can't even restart the Face ID, since the phone just won't allow me to do anything about it because of this TrueDepth problem.

Welcome AxlAung,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, Face ID has been disabled on your iPhone XS. We'll do our best to assist.

Due to the error we see here, these are the steps we'd recommend to take:

  1. Check for updates, back up and get up to date, if needed: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
  2. If Face ID isn't working on your iPhone or iPad Pro
  3. Ensure the ring/silent switch is set to ring, not silent.
  4. Any restrictions set up on this device? Check in Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If so, disable these restrictions, restart the iPhone and test out the issue.
  5. Restart the iPhone
  6. Attempt to complete Face ID enrollment continuously for at least a full minute in a well lit environment.

Should you continue to receive this exact error, 'Face ID has been disabled' or 'Face ID is not available' then bring in the iPhone for an inspection: iPhone Repair & Service

To prepare for your visit: Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service

Find a service center by selecting your region and searching nearby here: Find Locations

Note: Due to the current conditions around the world, some stores may have limited hours or appointment times. They also may require specific things to visit them (Such as, scheduling an appointment, wearing a mask, calling to check-in, etc.).

Hoping this helps out, take care!

I had the same experience! I was at the gym yesterday and my face id wouldn't work. Today, I went to the genius bar and they told me within the first 5 min that I would have to pay $595 to get it fixed since I don't have apple care. That's ridiculous. I bought this phone from Verizon a year ago. That's right, A YEAR AGO! I'm very disappointed.

i tried resetting all settings, factory restoring, reinstalling ios with itunes, ipsw files, activating lost mode……… nothing worked and left with this error “ face id has been disabled”

front portrait also doesn’t work…..

i think its a software bug after updating to ios 15.0.1 so please make a fix in next ios15.1 update

I'm have the exact same issue with the TrueDepth camera a few minutes after a water splash on my iPhone Xs which is expected to be waterproof...

Appointment is settle at Genius Bar tomorrow... but it's planed to buy a new iPhone. This is native disfunction which should be taken under warranty as it limits the phone usage.

I have to precise that my iPhone Xs is in perfect condition, never been out of its protection case and with glass protection also.

Wait and see.
