App Store is Stuck Updating Xcode

Stuck for hours updating Xcode. No way to stop the update - click the stop button does nothing, although it works for other updates. Force-quitting App Store doesn’t help. Restarting my system doesn’t work either.

I do NOT want to log my appleid out as I have done before and it’s a lot of work to get your system back after logging out. But I will do that as a last resort if it is supposed to work.

How do I cancel the update and start again?
