Device backup

I've been trying to install macOS Big Sur but there seem to be too little space on the disk. I've noticed there's an option to 'erase device backup' when I go to storage space>iOS files. All my previous iphones' backups take about 20GB. My question is if I erase previous device backups will it also delete things like photos or files from my laptop and current iphone? Thank you.

Copy iPhone backups from Mac to external drive to free up space I am running mac OS Catalina and used up almost all of my 250GB storage space on my Macbook Pro. I found out that around 100GB of that are old iPhone backups. Can I copy those backups to my external hard drive and delete from Macintosh HD on the Macbook Pro? If yes, can you please tell me the procedure? I do not want to buy more iCloud space to save those backups. If its of any help, I do occasionally use Time Machine to back up on my external hard drive. Thank you!

can i delete the mobile devices backups tp free storage for the upgrade and so the backup again after the upgrade, and how I need 35GB of free storage to upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur. I only have around 15GB but plenty on iCloud. Can I delete the iPad and iPhone backup from my computer or transfer them on iCloud to free the corresponding space on my 128GB SSD? How can i setup the parameter to directly backup both devices to iCloud ?

MacPro Hard Drive I am trying to delete files, especially large ones, from my hard drive as I have over 90 percent storage of the HD. Of this there is almost 200 GB storage of iOS files which are the iPhone and iPad back ups. We have iPhone 7 models but the backups don't show which are earlier iPhone models (5 and 6) and which are iPhone 7 Can I delete all these? Then do fresh back-up our iPhones and iPad. Is there a way I can transfer to an external drive? Suggestions welcome Thanks
