Will AirTag's anti-stalking feature ring an alarm for items left at home for more than 8h?

Hi,

I'm considering buying AirTags for a few of my items.

One of these items is my car keys. Sometimes I leave my car keys at home for an extended period of time (few days) when I'm away on a work trip.

I read that Apple's anti-stalking feature will ring an alarm from the tag after 8h without being next to my phone. Is this feature also activated when the tag is stationary, and I'm away?

The alarm from the tag left at my home is an issue as I don't want to annoy my family.

I don't want to "disable" the tag. There is a second item that I leave at home and only take with me when I get back. So I don't want to remember to enable/disable this second time every time I go to work.

I appreciate your help in advance. Also sorry for my English. I hope you get the point I'm trying to explain.

Hello Maciej K,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you have some questions about using AirTag for your keys when away on work trips, and we'd like to share some information with you.

As it turns out, an AirTag that isn't with the person who registered it for an extended period of time will play a sound when the AirTag is moved, even if your family members back home don’t use an iOS device. Therefore, you might consider asking your family not to move your keys when the AirTag is attached and you're away for an extended period of time. Learn more here:

What to do if you find an AirTag or get an alert that an AirTag is with you

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
