Transferring photos to new mac

I got a new mac and am having trouble with transferring photos. They all transferred except for pictures taken in the last month. All photos are on icloud, including this last months, so I'm not sure why they won't show up on the new computer. Everything is linked - since all the other photos showed up.

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Is the sync still ongoing? What does the sync status say at the bottom of your all photos view?
