iPhone XS water damage what can I do?

My phone fell in the sink for only a second but now it just gives me logo loops, it will sometimes work for a minute or so but then it just shuts right off and keeps looping. I think it happened because they didn’t seal it properly when I sent it in to get the screen fixed. But now my warranty and apple care ran out so I don’t know what to do. I don’t think being wet for a second should have damaged it to the point of not being usable when it is supposed to be water resistant so that’s why I think it’s because they didn’t seal it properly when they repaired it. I spent more than $2000 on that phone from my injury settlement and since I am disabled I will probably never be able to afford something like that again I really think Apple should do something but I can’t even contact them, I don’t have a phone that is working so I can’t call and the customer service options won’t let me just contact them without organizing a repair..

The phone is splash resistant, anything beyond that is uncertain:

If you had the screen replaced by Apple or at an Apple authorized service agent, you may want to contact Apple and make your case that they did not properly reseal it, but I can't say that would have any effect upon whether they would cover any part of the cost.

Still, it never hurts to try:

If it was done by a third party repair service, you would have to complain to them.

When did anyone say anything about a third party repair place. It was repaired by Apple. And why do people care so much if I go to a different company that will be cheaper? The fact is it would be a lot less upsetting to lose a $500 phone than it is to lose one that cost you more than $2000.

That's not what Dogcow (forgive me if wrong) or I am saying. Read Dogcows comments to you again - he's suggesting a fairly sensible course of action and I agree. It's a question of who you make your case to, if you think the repair is the cause of your issues. Which if you do believe that is the case, its a case worth making to them. I appreciate the lack of phone makes it harder.

I understand, but he was helping. It's just that if this is a issue about the repair that's potentially going to have more legs than a broad brush and unconstrained argument about the water and drop aspects of iPhones generally. It's (the repair issue) a stronger point. But at least getting a phone (somehow) to call Support and speak to someone may be part of the next steps, if you can't easily get to a Store. I certainly wish you all the best in getting this resolved.

i live in Canada so Canadian dollars. And the repair cost is more than I get in a month on disabilities so yeah. It’s the highest storage phone idk if that affects the cost but they don’t even have replacement available for XS because they discontinued them... I bought that phone with my injury settlement I don’t have money to throw at Apple because they couldn’t seal my phone when they fixed it... honestly at this point I regret getting the phone so much because it was absolutely not worth $2000 if it can’t even get wet. I had a first gen iPhone when I was like 14 that survived vein in the ocean and this one can’t handle literally 2 seconds in fresh water. I am definitely not going to be going back to Apple If I can’t get help on this somehow without having to pay more than a thousand dollars

Yeah I saw that as well and was pretty frustrated about that. My Apple care + just ran out in June too 😩 I have talked to text support now tho and am currently attempting what they suggested and it seems like it might work so hopefully the crisis can be averted. My only thought for why the price is quoted so high is maybe because my phone is not the lowest storage option idk if that should really matter tho for a repair

Well I tried everything they suggested and it’s still just restarting over and over. The problem is slightly different now but it’s unusable... And the support person said my only option was to pay the quote for repairs since I am not close enough to an Apple store to go in in person because of travel restrictions. I guess I’m just done with Apple.

i wouldn’t have paid $2000 for an android though. I could literally buy the newest iPhone for less than it would cost to fix this one. I just expected better quality and better accountability if the seals where damaged they should have told me it wasn’t spill resistant anymore.. clean water didn’t even damage old iPhones this much it seems like the price has gone way up and the actual durability has gone down for the most part... it’s disappointing and I wouldn’t feel ok buying another super expensive device from them. Whatever I can’t afford to save up to buy from them anyways I am on disabilities and only could buy the first one because I had money from my injury settlement..
