Watch + AirPods Pro: auto-connection issue after 7.6 update

Suddenly after the new stable OS update Watch 6 stopped auto-connecting to AirPods Pro when they connected to the phone. Now I must manually connect them via AirPlay button, then they connects to the both devices. They also connecting if I play radio (and selecting them). But after putting AirPods to the case this again resets.

Already restarted phone, watch; reset AirPods and Watch (also set as new, without backup) — same.

Apple Watch Series 6, watchOS 7

I had this problem too, but now i found a solution. (But, it's exactly a bug. Apple SHOULD FIX THIS BUG)

  1. Open Setting app in your iPhone
  2. Enter Bluetooth
  3. Enter Airpods configuration menu
  4. See Connect to this iPhone
  5. Your setting would be `Automatically`. Change to `Last connected~`

Done! I thought that it would be a issue of Automatically attach function.

I hope that this bug to be fixed asap.

Hi there TopoRUS,

We understand that after updating to watchOS 7.6, your AirPods Pro no longer automatically connect to your Apple Watch.

How are you trying to connect them to the Apple Watch? Are you trying to connect them via Settings > Bluetooth? If that's the case, you'll want to use these steps instead.

If that doesn't work, then please contact Apple Support: Get Support

Cheers!

I found this solution before, but now I can say this is not a 100% senario, but nearly 95% time it did connect both iPhone & Apple Watch simultaneously but still have 5% time it won’t really works which even cannot connect to Apple Watch by airplay button, eventually I need to restart Apple Watch to get it fix. So now Sadly I switch back to “automatically” to connect AirPod to watch manually, at least I’m sure it was connecting….

Hi.

Even at this page:

When you set up AirPods with your iPhone, they're simultaneously connected to both your Apple Watch and iPhone, and they play sound automatically from either device.

AirPods linked to the iPhone, but sound not switching (e.g. for a call) like in previous watchOS. Now after every instance of removing AirPods from the case I must open quick settings in the watch, tap AirPlay button and select AirPods instead of Watch as audio source. And only after that they will be connected both to the Watch and iPhone and will switch audio until putting to the case.
