My Apple TV 3rd Generation will not allow me to change Network Password

I’ve tried this from another discussion “After you changed the Wi-Fi password on your router, the Apple TV would notice that by getting disconnected.

Settings﹥Network﹥Wi-Fi﹥Not Connected

Trying to re-connect to the same network name (SSID) would result in a failed try, followed by an endless spinner.

After a restart, then choosing

Settings﹥Network﹥Wi-Fi﹥Not Connected﹥Other…

You would be asked for the network name. Enter it.

It would try to connect with the memorized password, but fail again.”……..BUT it won’t ask me to enter a new password.

It also doesn’t allow me the option to “forget this network” so I can re-enter my wifi network with my new password.

I’ve also tried resetting and restoring factory setting with no success.

When I’ve tried a Ethernet connection, nothing comes up on the screen, (yes! I did check my input settings) no Apple TV basic menu, etc. Is my Apple TV 3rd Generation dead?

Hey, that sounds like something I would write. ☺️

That was accurate for Apple TV (4th generation or later) with tvOS 12.3 (2019).

The software on Apple TV (3rd generation) may behave differently, and I can’t test that.

BUT it won’t ask me to enter a new password.

You may have to try to connect a few times repeatedly, before Apple TV realizes that the memorized password is not going to work, and then it may ask for a new password (untested).

Or change the SSID network name on the router as well, as suggested in that other post.

Or try to connect to Other network, as suggested in that other post, then filling in the credentials manually.

Forget This Network is only available for networks that you are currently connected to.

I’ve also tried resetting and restoring factory setting with no success.

All that in the other discussion and the above, was about avoiding a reset/restore. After a reset/restore, old networks or passwords should not be remembered, and the device should be able to connect as new. Something else may be happening.

How do you get to Network Settings, when nothing is showing on screen? That doesn’t change with ethernet vs. Wi-Fi.

Is the status light glowing continuously?

I finally got it showing on the screen through Ethernet connection. Through Ethernet, I was able to “complete” the restore/reset.

When connecting to my wifi, it will not ask for a password. The error message is stating not able to connect to network that my password entered is incorrect. I even tried to connect using “other” entering manually. Then I tried renaming my wifi network and still got the same error message.

I recently got a new router, TP-link Archer A9 AC1900 Wireless Router. Thinking about it now, since I connected it, my Apple TV 3rd Generation has not been able to connect. My newer Apple TV models have had no problem.
