My money says it is along these lines...
Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…
Then you may need Ways to securely access AOL Mail…

Or it may just need an App Password...

Yahoo has gone to this too...

Yahoo App password…
Generate and manage third-party app passwords
Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

I suggest you use the webmail interface, which I know works. AFTer logging in to Spectrum.net with my spectrum username and password, I see this.
If you click on Email it then takes you to your email in a webmail interface. No second password is required.
If instead you want to set up Apple Mail, Spectrum provides this guidance:
https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/spectrum-email-server-settings
On the same page there is chat support, you can "chat" with a person there for technical support.
You can also phone them. https://www.spectrum.net/contact-us/ You can speak with a person there for technical support also.
