cannot access apple id

Both MacBook Air and MacBook Pro repeatedly ask for my password for one of my apple id. However, when I enter the password the process stops, the dialogue boxes go blank, and the timer spins. My apple id is a Gmail account. I am currently accessing through a non-Gmail apple id account.

This seems like a hack or malware 'cause it affects both computers. I have not yet seen a request for an apple id password on my iPhone.

When I go to my iCloud account, or even this site and go to sign in, I get the message from Apple ID, "Do you want to sign in to idmsa.apple.com with your Apple ID "name@gmail.com." The ID is the correct one. Under that is "Continue with Password." When clicked, a popup box opens that says "Enter the password for the user "Gene Surber" to continue. When I enter my password, the box shakes and is not accepted. When I click on "Use a different Apple ID" then it takes me to the same Apple ID that is saved, and accepts my password (which is also saved). Clearly this is not a different account. I'm not sure what is going on here, but I wold prefer to just be able to log on to iCloud and other Apple things without this happening. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible I have two passwords for the same account? I don't want to change the password to "correct" the problem if I don't have to as then I will have to sign out of everything and update everything. I'd just like to know what is going on and if there is a way to fix it. I must add that, in KeyChain Access.app, I deleted all the items containing "appleid" with no visible effect.

Apple ID Sign In question from Apple Whenever I Sign In to my Apple ID on my 2021 Mac Book Pro M1, prior to Password request, I am presented with a screen that asks "want to Sign In to idsma.apple.com with your Apple ID." Well, yes, that is what I always want, but the only clickable option presented is "Sign In with another Apple ID" or "Continue with Touch ID" Oh no, I only have one Apple ID (as most of us probably do), and that is enough for me! But nowhere is there an operating link for a "one Apple ID" person like me, so I am forced to choose "another ID" in order to get the Password box. Then I complete my Sign In with no problems. If I had wanted to use another Apple ID, it would not be possible at this point in the process, because this is AFTER I have entered my Apple ID in the prior screen, so why ask? Anyone else get this nonsensical prompt, or is it just me? I've attached a picture of what I am seeing.

Password for Apple ID only works in some places. I recently changed the password for my Apple ID. I changed the password because of this problem. When I try and login to the forums for example (Safari running Monterey), I get a prompt asking if I want to sign in to idmsa.apple.com with my Apple ID. I click 'Continue with password' using my new password which always fails (using copy/paste, but also failed when I manually typed the password). If I click 'Use a different Apple ID' and manually enter my Apple ID and password I'm able to login. That's how I logged in here. I'm having the same login trouble on another Mac I've don't a factory reset on where I'm prompted for my Apple ID during the setup (Mac running Catalina). I'm wondering if something hasn't synced, but otherwise don't know why this is happening. Thanks

No, I don't have a screen shot; it says my apple id (it shows the id) requires my password. Entering the password results in a never ending pause when the box goes gray. The only thing I can do at that point is to Force Quit or reduce the box because it doesn't offer the option of closing the box.
