Battery drain in iOS 14.7.1

Hi,

Battery drain is happening after updated to iOS 14.7, the percent is jumping from 77% to 71% without almost any use, I am using the iPhone 11 Pro normal and my battery health is still on 100%.

Is anyone experiencing this too?

iPhone 11 Pro, iOS 14

There IS a fix that works, guys. I had battery drain issues after 14.7.1 and now I don’t. First thing you can try: Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Then charge it and wait a couple hours. If that doesn’t fix the battery drain, you can connect your iPhone to a Mac (if you have one) and do a system restore via Finder. When that’s complete, set it up as a new phone. If you don’t have a Mac, do an iCloud backup, then go to Settings/General/Reset/Erase all Content and Settings. Set it up as a new phone. Once you’ve set it up as a new phone, if you don’t want to manually redownload your apps and customize your settings, you can restore again from your backup. I don’t think this will reinstall the battery drain “bug.” Give those things a try and let us know if the suggestions did or did not work for you.

Might have stumbled on something that's had a benefit to my phone. I turned off participation in the Find my network and my battery has seemed a lot more stable since (Settings / Find My / Find My iPhone, and disable just the option Find My network, leaving the other two options enabled). For those that don't know, this feature is an update to the old offline finding mode that existed before iOS 14.6 that now allows Airtags and other third party locators to work. Opting out does disable the ability to find a lost iPhone that's not connected to the internet, but doesn't change the ability to Find My iPhone for devices that are connected.

If you're willing to try turning this off for a day or two, would be interested to see if this helps battery drain for anyone else?

I'd take a look at this first:

http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

https://support.apple.com/HT208387

https://support.apple.com/HT210512

Also cross reference the issue with different chargers(or computer), all USB ports (if using a computer), and different cords (if possible).

However, if those steps don't work, you don't want to call AppleCare, and you're worried whether it's a hardware or software issue, follow these steps:

Back up

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203977

Restore to factory

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184

If your battery is still draining while plugged in, without any of your data or apps on the phone, then it's probably safe to say you need to get the battery checked out by Apple.

If your battery is perfect again, then you can restore your phone from the backup and see if everything is still good.

Restore from backup

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204184

I hope that helps and good luck!

If the issue still occurs after a full factory restore and the phone isn't struggling to connect to cellular/wifi, then it sounds like you've narrowed it down to the OS as the cause of the issue. The last iOS notes about an issue of the battery reading not being accurate was brought up in iOS 14.5 (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212247).

I didn't notice the issue until 14.6 and my phone's issue was solved after backing up my phone to my computer, although the iOS and MacOS were already up-to-date. I have noticed that my cellular strength is less, but it doesn't seem to be affecting the battery. I also wonder if the adoption of 5G is having an effect for the people that reset the network settings and still have the battery drainage issue.

Hopefully Apple will release 14.7.2 to address people still having the battery issue so we're not waiting for iOS 15 to address it.

V_savings ~ Try resetting your Network Settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

The above was suggested by NCheok in this same thread you've posted in. See NCheok's post here:

I've read about people having reception issues with multiple phone numbers tied to the same iPhone, after the 14.7 update, but also people with no reception issues while still experiencing faster than normal battery drainage/usage. As for fixing the issues, you have to choose whether you're going to simply report the issue to Apple and let them try to solve it with another software update or if you're going to take the time to fix it yourself, assuming it's not an actual hardware issue.

Step one, for any direction you go in, is to backup your iPhone. It sounds weird, but coincidentally or not, sometimes I've found the process of backing up can sort things out, and you want a recent backup anyway, so realistically that isn't a waste of time either way.

Step two is determine whether you want to restore the iPhone to factory settings, without any other data on it, which will help you determine if it's a software or hardware issue. If that didn't help or somehow you determined that it isn't a hardware issue, then you still have a choice. The last option isn't approved by Apple, but there are legitimate websites that have the .ipsw files you need of every iOS version released, so technically you could reinstall iOS 13 or 14.1. Granted if you don't already have a backup of your phone while on the software version you rollback to, then restoring your data from a backup isn't going to work.

Most of the Apple-approved steps and instructions are listed in my previous post with all of the links to the Apple website, but if you're really stressed about 14.7.1, you have about an hour of time (plus the time it takes to restore from a backup), a backup of your phone while on the previous version of the software, AND a current backup of your phone as a safety net, jump on YouTube and search for "How To Downgrade iOS - From 14.0 to 13.7."

Hopefully my advise helps you narrow down whether you want to spend time fixing it now or wait for another software update to fix it. Enjoy your day, good luck, and stay safe.

Yes I have this too, only since upgrading to 14.7.1 from 14.7 earlier this week.

The battery drained 50% this morning from a full charge in 3 hours. I didn’t touch the phone.

The main culprit is the browser, according to the data.

iPhone 11 Pro. Battery health is 88% but this drain problem only started happening after the upgrade.

I don’t understand why resetting the network settings and/or restoring people’s devices corrected the problem for many people, but not others. These solutions WORK. I don’t think the people that continue to post about the battery drain are actually attempting the fixes that have been given over and over again. It’s like baby birds just sitting in the nest squawking waiting for food to be put in their mouths. Just do the fixes. Aren’t you tired of the battery drain problem? Wouldn’t it just be easier to complete the steps and be done with it rather than stressing yourself out complaining about it over and over again. Others can only show you the door. YOU must decide to walk through it.

Last week I restored my iPhone as a new device using iTunes (I did a backup but installed all my apps manually). At least it fixed wi fi 5Ghz issue. Before I had low speed 5Ghz WiFi. Overnight drain didn’t changed: still 8%.

But yesterday I turned off find my network in find my and today overnight I lost only 2%

need to check several days (with on/off)

but I recommend to restore your device using iTunes if you have any problems (this is different than reset settings)
