Battery drain in iOS 14.7.1

Hi,

Battery drain is happening after updated to iOS 14.7, the percent is jumping from 77% to 71% without almost any use, I am using the iPhone 11 Pro normal and my battery health is still on 100%.

Is anyone experiencing this too?

There IS a fix that works, guys. I had battery drain issues after 14.7.1 and now I don’t. First thing you can try: Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings. Then charge it and wait a couple hours. If that doesn’t fix the battery drain, you can connect your iPhone to a Mac (if you have one) and do a system restore via Finder. When that’s complete, set it up as a new phone. If you don’t have a Mac, do an iCloud backup, then go to Settings/General/Reset/Erase all Content and Settings. Set it up as a new phone. Once you’ve set it up as a new phone, if you don’t want to manually redownload your apps and customize your settings, you can restore again from your backup. I don’t think this will reinstall the battery drain “bug.” Give those things a try and let us know if the suggestions did or did not work for you.

The 14.7.1 update has issues in multiple areas of the iOS. Turning off Siri has slowed the drain more than the network reset for me. If a software update requires to erase and restore a device then the update was not created to the standards people expect from apple. From the iPhone 3g to the 12 the updates have become more flawed than beneficial in some respects.

I have 12 mini, was experiencing very fast drain (100% the night before, then 20% by 10am!). Was getting "your iPhone has been used more than usual since upgrading iOS " msg. but I know I have not.

Seems much improved after resetting network settings.  In settings, General > Reset > Reset Network settings. (have your wifi pw handy because will need to type it in again)

BMinCO ~ The long process of applying an iOS update can kill a weak, aging battery. The "peak power issue" and the "extra battery pack" making no difference attests to the weak state of your iPhone 6s's battery. ...Is it still the original one? And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

Settings > Battery > Battery Health

Considering the model and age, it's quite likely the battery simply needs to be replaced:

You might have already checked this, but I noticed that my XR wasn't charging while plugged in and I had to restart the phone for the charger to register. While checking my battery usage the phone seemed to spike only in the last 24 hours, while I've had the iOS 14.7.1 update for a week. However, I have noticed the rate of charging has decreased since 14.6. I am used to the battery charging, while under 50%, to be more than 1% per minute, but now it is 1% per 2.5 minutes, whether the phone is on or off; Battery health is 97%. My next test will be a backup/restore to factory and retest the battery while on and off.

My battery health is 84%. Are you saying that to me this is normal that my battery drops from 54% to 0 and device shuts down, then I plug in for 3 seconds to charger and can use phone with 4% battery for 10 hours? And this start when I updated a device. And I have same issue in iOS 14.2 with same battery. I use iOS 14.5.1 for 6 months and it’s work perfectly fine with 84 % battery health. Then it’s clear for me this is software issue

Yea I agree the constant posts disparaging that this is an issue with the update.

It is happening to me on my iPhone 11 and iPad Pro 3rd gen, my wife's iPhone X, my Mom's iPhone X, her mom's iPhone X, my sister in laws iPhone X.

I have tried resetting network preferences, I have tried restoring, and neither did a thing. I have most of my apps background updates turned off.

I get that update might be more accurate on the battery life, but this is battery drain, and is happening at very high rates compared to before the recent updates.

I've also noticed increased drain since iOS 14.7.1. I have a first generation SE; yes an old phone, but with a relatively new battery still at 100% health. 14.7 seemed normal drain, but 14.7.1 sees it drain fast with it just sat idle. It seems better sometimes when my Apple Watch is turned off, so I'm wondering if it's an interaction of the two.

For those of you noticing higher drain since 14.7.1, do you also have Apple Watches, and does yours improve if you turn the Watch off too?

I've posted here before to say I'm seeing the same problems as everyone else with the iPhone not holding charge as well since iOS 14.7.1. Thought I'd share this battery usage from yesterday though. I'd gone to bed around 10pm with the battery at ~40% charge, and woke up to see it at 1%. What's interesting here though is not the fact that it lost 40% overnight (which would be extreme anyway), but that it dropped to that in about 2-3 hours and then sat quite happily at 1% for the next 6-7 hours. More perplexing is that I was then able to use the iPhone just fine at 1% for 20 minutes or so in the morning before putting it on charge. When I did put in on charge it immediately jumped from 1% to 17%. Now I know you can see this kind of behaviour with an old or bad battery, but in this case the battery is less than a year old and still at 100% health, and I know this behaviour only started after iOS 14.7.1 was installed. Makes me wonder if the actually battery drain isn't any different, but just iOS's ability to measure and report it correctly since the last update?
