“Backups” category in iCloud

Ive been receiving prompts that my iCloud storage is almost full and it is broken down like this:So, my issue is, what is this “Backups” that is taking up my storage and why is it separate from the other things in this initial list? When I click on it, I see this screen:

This brings me to my real issue, which is this entire list of apps doesn’t even come close to approaching the “backup size” it says near the top. Why doesn’t this add up and what is taking up my storage? This also is happening on my iPad on a larger scale and it is responsible for the other 2.5 gb in the backups category you saw in Thebes first photo, but it’s list of apps under “backups” doesn’t even come close to adding up to that size either.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

When you look at your next backup size for iCloud and you see the apps that are listed, this is showing additional app data that would be included in your iCloud backup. You have the option to enable or disable which apps you wouldn't want to have backup data for. There are other items included in the backup that aren't listed such as your device settings, home screen and app organization, and what usually takes the most space, your photos, videos and messages. You can see a full breakdown of what is included in a backup in this helpful article:
