Updated to 14.7.1 but still having problems unlocking Apple Watch with Face ID on iPhone XR

Then pairing and restoring my Apple Watch to my iPhone https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204505

Cured my Apple Watch unlock via iPhone issues.

I'm having the same issue with my XR and Series 5 cellular. Both are up to date.

Not sure if it has been described:

1. Put watch on
2. Pick up phone
3. Unlock phone with Face ID
4. Watch does not unlock
5. Lock phone
6. Unlock with Face ID
7. Delay but watch will unlock eventually

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to avoid unpairing. Giving it a try right now.

New information

Turn off "Unlock with Apple Watch" under iPhone settings -> Face ID & Passcode (for touch ID, it may be slightly different title).
