MacBook Pro M1 cracked screen

I have not dropped my computer or have had exercised pressure on it. I left it opened and came back to see a small crack on the side of the screen. The screen is not working anymore.

Apparently other users have experience the same thing.

I bought my computer about 5months a go.

Has Apple acknowledged hog this as a manufacturing issue yet ? Will I get a full refund for this

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.4

Imagine getting it as a gift, and using it a total of 20 minutes in two evenings, to be told when brought to the service center that I "should have bought Apple Care." I am disappointed in the product, disappointed in Apple, and disappointed in the snide employee at the Apple Store.

There is a small crack on the bottom left corner of my screen. I closed it yesterday and a while later I opened it up again and there it was - a small internal crack with vertical and horizontal lines across the screen! There goes my new M1 Pro! I too have not dropped my MacBook and I have only been using it for a week!!

I had the same problem three days ago. There was a crack on the right side of the screen, with discolouration of the screen. and sudden switching off. There was no external injury, no trauma to the screen or my mac book air. I am frustrated, After reading all these replies, it seems that I should pay for the screen which is unfair. I use MacBook since 2010, It seems the time came to stop using apple, although apple is my best brand ever for laptops. unfortunately, they are going backwards in their manufacturing and customer care. I have an appointment in three days in apple care, I will see what they will tell me.

I had the same exact thing happen to me a few weeks ago and just got my M1 MBA back......$462 dollars later.

I wish I (we) had some recourse with this issue; Apple store employees all think I'm full of **** when I say I didn't do anything to it , and its infuriating. I want a freaking refund!!!!! This is obviously a hardware defect, and apple owes all of us!

This just happened to my daughter's computer on Friday. Her laptop was closed and in a case. She came back and the bottom of the screen was broken and the laptop no longer works. It turns on but just flashes bright colored lines. Apple needs to take responsibility for this issue. We literally bought this laptop last month. I will be reaching out to Apple today. Hers is a MacBook Air Model A2337

All: I've now talked to Apple through live chat, have been to the Apple Store where we bought the laptop last month, talked to a senior advisor this morning through global support, have lodged a formal complaint with Apple, and an official product report with Apple. After all of this, I still have not been able to exchange the laptop for a new one. "Online" Apple is telling me that they don't have the authority to do more since this is with "Retail" and the actual store needs to authorize this and the store won't. I will be calling the Better Business Bureau next. Apple did tell me that they do not consider discussions in these forums to be a formal report of an issue. So frustrating. Unacceptable.

I was wiping the screen of my M1 Air when it was off but felt a bit weird. Turned it on and saw cracks.

A technician here inspected the device and told that there is no physical damage (assume no user's fault) then Apple support referred it to "engineers" to see the photos of screen that I took and said no warranty, multiple cracks means no warranty cover for it (still under warranty). Asked to escalate the issue to higher level that I'm not satisfied with the resolution, the support officer gave me the street address of Singapore office (no email, no phone). She accepted that this doesn't make sense.

I feel scammed by Apple. If Apple told me that this laptop is very good but has weak display, I would take care much or buy an insurance or something. Or not buy at all. I never bought an apple product and this was the first one! No wonder!

Same problem. Macbook pro M1 13 inch bought it July. On Sep 27th my screen cracked for no reason. I called apple support , they are claiming it's physical damage on my part and the charges for replacement are $700. Theres no guarantee it will not happen again as all I did was open and close the laptop. Apple loyal customers are being forced to pay the price for faulty equipment. All Macbook M1's should be called back.

The more I search, the more this seems to be a widespread issue like the former keyboard issue. I simply closed my M1 2020 MacBook Air and heard a weird noise. I opened it up and saw nothing unusual. The next day, in bright daylight, I could very faintly see 2 hairline cracks near the "MacBook" logo. There was nothing trapped there, not a single piece of debris or anything. Simply cracked on its own from closing the lid properly.

Called Apple immediately and was advised, "sorry thats a cosmetic issue, not a hardware fault". A cracked screen is "cosmetic"? Disgraceful, especially after almost 2 decades of Apple products with some MacBooks lasting almost a decade without any issues.

Im going to visit Apple Store in person and see if they are able to help me resolve as Im still under warranty. Fingers crossed.

In the Apple store, they'll just say "Oh that's nice, but unfortunately apple isn't going to cover it as a hardware defect"

This is definitely a hardware defect. I can't discuss in detail on here, but I suggest people should look into how to get some recourse for this issue.

I've had several laptops over the past two-decades--three-macbooks--and I never broke a screen, especially not after there wasn't any physical interaction with it that would break it to begin with.

With all due respect, a screen cannot physically damage itself on its own. It may have been broken by someone else who maybe used It without your permission or supervision. But it is physically impossible for that screen to crack on it's own like that, also the fact that it has Apple's M1 chip has nothing to do with anything, have an amazing day!
