Read receipts to Android

I have my read receipts off but several android users have told me they can see when I read their texts still. I think it's the Google rcs texting. Is there any way to turn off read receipts to all devices not just through iMessage on apple devices?

read receipts from viewing notifications if i see an imessage notification does that cause a read receipt? or do i need to open imessage and click on the conversation for the read receipt to show up on her iphone?
