lost contacts

I lost my contacts on all devices after deleting them on an old imac?

must've done somethiong wrong? so how do I recover them?

iMac, OS X 10.11

Recover contacts from iCloud.com using a Mac Restore contacts, calendars, bookmarks and more using iCloud.com - Apple Support

Then follow Set up and use iCloud Contacts - Apple Support
