MAIL PREFERENCES box is blank, no options.

When I go to MAIL PREFERENCES to edit my signature, the pulldown box is blank, with no options.

I've tried many options and have not been able to correct this error.

Please help get beyond this problem.

Thank you!

Hi

If this is only happening with mail app, make sure you do the below checks first

  1. force quit the app and try again: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201276
  2. Restart Mac and try again
  3. Make sure you are up to date(System prefs >software update)
  4. test if it happens in a different user account or create a new test user account : https://support.apple.com/en-ie/guide/mac-help/mtusr001/mac

Once you know if it happens in other user account let me know here and I will advise

You do not say what you have tried...

You do not sat what macOS...

Verify you have a backup plan in place, in the event you have to restore.

Should work for Mojave, Catalina, not Big Sur

Quit mail.

From the Finder>Go>Go to Folder, copy & Paste:

 ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail

Highlight all the contents in this folder. Place your mouse on the selection,

Then Control click (right-click) and choose "New Folder with Selection”. Do not move the new folder from this current location.

You can close the Finder window.

The next step will be to restart the Mac and test

After the computer is restarted, open the Mail.app> Preferences to see if it opens properly.

relaunch the mail.app and test. The plist will automatically rebuild itself.

if no change you can always Control click the deleted .plist from within the Trash>Put Back
