imessage on cellular network

Why am I able to send imessages while on wi-fi but not able to when on my cellular network. I have an unlimited texting plan.

iPhone 11, iOS 14

You may have an unlimited texting plan (that supports SMS messages) but you need to enable cellular data to use iMessages or MMS messages. See:
