Mac mini and VGA monitor stopped working

Hi. everyone

I got an old Mac Mini 2012 6,2.

  1. I first tried connecting an LG monitor via HDMI-VGA cable. I got no signal. Connection via Thunderbolt-HDMA worked on the same monitor.
  2. Then I tried a higher resolution and the monitor display gone blank with message "out of range".
  3. I thought the HDMI port is faulty but it works with my TV. Now it only works when TV connected via HDMI and the LG via thunderbolt.
  4. If I unplug the TV I get the same monitor message "out of range".
  5. I tried different resolution and setting including mirroring and extending.

Please advise.

All the best

Jamal

Adapters can fail or fail to work properly at any time without warning.

You can connect a VGA monitor to the 2012 Mac Mini using an HDMI to VGA adapter or by using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.

1) You could try a different HDMI to VGA adapter.

2) An original Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter

3) Or an aftermarket Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.

Personally I would use a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter instead of an HDMI to VGA adapter.

Hi Den

Today I tried the Mini DisplayPort to VGA with a different monitor; Samsung SyncMaster 913v, and it worked fine.

The problem with the LG Flatron W2242S is that it was working fine with Mini DisplayPort to VGA, until I changed the resolution to 1080p and it went blank with the message on the monitor out of range. I tried hooking the TV as mentioned earlier but LG would not work alone even after setting it back to default.

I also tried booting in safe boot, still won't show anything on the monitor.

My dilemma is to how to revert the mistake of resolution to have LG work?

thanks Jamal
