HomePod mini won’t work on the asus mesh but works on isp wifi

My HomePod mini won’t stay connected to my ASUS zen wifi ax mesh system. I will set it up. It will work for a little but then it says it can’t connect to the internet. It will never connect again. I have to reset it and then I enabled my ISP wifi which is an att 210 gateway. It will work for days, but because it is a different network I can’t use it for airplay, but the threading for my lights will work so I have to leave it there. Then the home app will say it’s on a different network. I will migrate it back. It will work for a little bit until it kicks it off the network again. My isp router is dual band and my isp is Tri-band. I suspect it is the asus firmware, but I can’t find anyone who has had this issue anywhere. I have bound the ip, I have set the QoS to allow the HomePod to connect, I have removed those settings. I have obsessively checked to see if all my equipment is up to date and yes I have unplugged it multiple times and I get the same result every time. Has anyone seen this? Is their a workaround? To add, I took it to apple and they swapped

it out and I got the same results with a new device.

HomePod mini, 14

I had multiple issues with Asus mesh and Ios devices due to an asus bug that can be fixed by disabling in the router settings ‘WiFi Agile Multiband’. You may have to forget and re-register the wifi network on the ios device so it reconnects properly. This seems to be a known issue between ax mesh current firmware and ios.

Update from me, I reset the Asus Routers to original firmware 3.0.0.4.386_45934. I reset HomePod Mini's to factory setting. All worked ok for a few days. I have to routinely restart the HomePod Mini's s they lose connection. However 3 days ago after getting fed up having to restart I decided to follow another bit of advice which was to exclude them from the 5Ghz band, instructions here : https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1000904/ . Well I'm 3 days in and I've had consistent connection and all appears well with the system. This might be the silver bullet we've been looking for. Good luck everyone.

Problem solved for me. I reset the ASUS Mesh system back to factory default. On setup, I didn’t enable or disable any of the features.

I reset each speaker and permitted each 1 to use my current WiFi password (This changed slightly on setup after resetting to factory default). I did the same for my Apple TV’s. I’m slowly bring in all connected devices and checking the homepods each time. So far so good! My guess is that I had a few older connected devices that only work on the 2.4 band and I must’ve tweaked the settings to accommodate and that inadvertently had a negative affect on the homepods.

I just spent 2 weeks messing around with two HomePod minis where one is brand new. Previously I had some minor problems with my old HomePod mini, but it worked 90% of the time. My Big HomePod original works perfect and have zero problems.

However, when I got my new HomePod Mini is when all **** broke loose and it then screwed up my old mini. I kept getting “setup failed error of 301014”.

I spent a week with apple support going through multiple scenarios and trying lots of options. I reset my network both router and modem, wiped the minis. Tried different iPhones for setup thinking that was it. Nothing worked even after talking to apple and their engineers.

here’s the problem: ASUS routers just cannot work correctly with HomePod minis. Which is crazy because I have the high end of ASUS router with WiFi 6….and I have never had any problems with any apple devices and even with my big HomePod.

Buuut…..I had to switch WiFi networks directly from my modem-wipe both minis to factory settings-go through the setup process-then migrate them back to my main WiFi router/single network.

Now that did it and both are working correctly.

I even went into my main WiFi ASUS router signal and changed the 5g network to not push out the ax and WiFi 6 signal just to be safe.

so far everything is good and it’s been a whole day.

Hi @Handy_R I swiched from Asus to a d-link COVR mesh system and it works fine. However, and i don't think this is a router issue, but the Homepod mini can't find my location most times if i ask about the weather. Sometimes it will suddenly work, but always works for a short time after rebooting the minis, which is why i think its a mini issue. Other than that minor problem, everything else works fine. I've been quite happy with the d-link.

I could not get things to work with Asus. I also had issues with other IoT devices dropping offline like Ring and plugs and switches. If I rebooted the whole system it would work for a time but it wasn’t stable. The straw that broke the camels back was a HomePod mini finally processing a request at 2am to play music I liked (12 hours delayed). I moved to Netgear RBK852’s and I haven’t had an issue since and the signal and speeds are much improved.

So far what I have been able to determine is the asus mesh system has a bug. To add to what is happening, my nest got kicked off the wifi as well. I have even attempted to use a single band guest network, but the firmware is determined to block access. I have enabled my isp wifi and migrated my home pod mini and my nest to it. My isp wifi is dual band so it’s not band steering that’s the issue. It is stable. It’s been a week since I migrated them all to the isp wifi and it’s has stayed connected. My nest works just fine. The HomePod mini has a diminished feature capability being on a different wifi. I personally have the mini to have the thread network for my Nanoleaf lights. Being on a different wifi network doesn’t interfere with the thread networking. I will consider asus’ future role in my life and look at other mesh networks. Thank for the replies.

Hi all, I had same problems ,I have an Asus XenWiFi 6 Mesh. I mirrored the step to setup using ISP Wifi. . So I switched my ISP supplied Router from Modem mode into Router Mode , accessed the "old" WiFi and the HomePod setup went ok (after a couple of resets and restarts!). Now appears to be working ok-ish, can handoff airplay ok and ask about weather etc, however there is a problem where it keeps asking for Apple Password and won't play Apple Music playlists! This has to be most frustrating time ever with Technology.

I have the same issue as Daniel, my HomePod mini wouldn't update and started coming up with an account error. I reset it and then got error 301014 every time I tried to set it up again on my ASUS Zen WiFi AX... I eventually got it working but still getting connection problem at times where it won't play any music. I am experimenting with binding the HomePod mini to the main router node (which is 2m away, so its not a signal issue) and using a Wireless MAC Filter to exclude it from either 2.4ghz or 5ghz radios to see if one radio is better than the other. I also just turned off QoS to see if that helps.

I am having the same problems on both HomePods and Minis. Exact same issues, techniques etc. So, for me, it's both.

My two HomePods were setup and running before I upgraded to Asus Zenwifi AX and one of them is actually still working (we have not powered it off, just moved it in the Home app), the other one I moved to another room and it worked for a while then started not playing music. But still could report weather (as per others explained). We got a Homepod mini and it wouldn't set up - error 301014. I got it working on the ISP wifi and left it there. But I tried to reset the HomePod to factory to re-set it up. I couldn't get it going at all (same 301014) until I used the tether method. Now it's back to not playing music - but connecting to the internet.

ASUS is running latest firmware - 3.0.0.4.386_46061-g9a06866

Hi all, sounds like I have the same issue, I have 2 HomePods working mostly ok on my Asus ZenWifi AX if I bind them to one node. But adding HomePod minis has been impossible. I figured out that to set them up I needed to use a separate wifi network (my router wifi and yes they work fine on this one) but when I change them onto a Asus network I can only airplay, Apple Music playing from the HomePod will will not work. Sounds the same as many above, I have tried factory resetting, setting up a new Apple Home but I always end up in the same place. I'm either faced with moving away from HomePods or changing router. The latter seems the more sensible option but worried that I may see the same issue on another system. Anyone swapped to a new mesh wifi 6 network that works reliably?

Thanks
