AirPods Notifications are EXTREMELY LOUD and hurt my ears

Hello Apple and Community,

i have a problem with extremely loud Airpods Pro notifications, e. g. every time i put them in my ears and they connect to a device, making an extremly loud BOUNG-Sound to inform me they are connected. Low-Battery-Alarm is also loud as a siren. The volume for phone calls, music, and other sounds is low. In Settings, there appears to be no way to lower sound levels of AirPods-Notifications.

Why isn't there a setting for lower the sound levels of Airpods-Notification or disable them completly? Apple designers, PLEASE prioritize this feature into an upcoming IOS release. Thank you.

Hello dear kameote0628,

i have sensible ears and hear music/ebooks/videos on low volume, around 30 ("Hey Siri, turn volume to thirty", whatever unit this is). This volume is quite quiet. I love to listen like that, especially with active noise cancelling. But, every time my AirPods give me a system-sound or notification-sound, those sounds are way to loud. Those sounds are e. g. Bluetooth-Conncetion, Battery warning, Noise-Cancelling-Mode-Change. Those sounds have a much higher volume than anything i listen to. I can't measure it, so i have to guess that those sounds are around a volume of sixty or seventy (speaking in the "Hey-Siri-Volume-Unit"). Those sounds are at least double as loud as anything i`d like to listen to. If i would listen to songs in a high volume, than i wouldn`t mind those system-sounds. You understand? It is a matter of relativity. Relativ to my personal volumethose system-sounds are to loud.

To your questions:

Q1: Based on the details that you've provided, it is challenging for us to determine if your AirPods Pro is exhibiting unexpected behavior.

A1: My AirPods behave as Apple designed them, having just one stativ volume for system-sounds --> This should be changed to "user-definable"

Q2: Have you had the chance to ask other people to try your AirPods Pro for comparison?

A2.1: Yes, my girlfriend had them in her ears when battery alarm ringed. She was alarmed what that loud sound was.

A2.2: The internet is full of people with the same problem i have.

Q3: Have you recently had the chance to try other AirPods Pro for comparison?

A3: Yes, i had a hardware-refresh (apple care). Same behavior.

Can you get my point? Just a few lines of source-code would help to give AirPods Pro a user-changeable volume for system-sounds.

Take care

There is a little workaround:

With that setting there is at least that one loud "BWANG"-sound missing when plugging Airpods Pro into your ears. After putting them out of the case, i give them a few seconds to connect to the phone, then i put them into my ears, without this loud system-sound "BWANG".

Hello kameote0628,

thank you for your quick reply. Both my iPhones are running iOS 14.7.1. My Airpods Pro are also connected to an iPad an two different Windows-PC. But all of this doen`t matter, to be honest, because my Airpods Pro are making loud "system-sounds" without being paired. For example i put them on without being connected to a device, just for enjoying a quiet train-ride. So far, so good. But every time i change noise-canceling mode with a gentle press on the stem, there is a FAR TO LOUD SYSTEM SOUND BLASTING IN MY EAR to tell me, that the noise-cancelin-mode was changed. Why is this sound always so extremly loud? The same for "low battery", "connection enabled" oder "connection lost". Those system-sounds are unnececarily loud, and should be a lot quieter. Or at least there should be some option to turn those sounds down. Please Apple, it hurts my ears.

Hello kameote,

thank you for putting effort into this topic.

I recently hat a reset of my Airpods Pro. Because of the "Hissing-Problem" is got a hardware-replacement. Both Airpods Pro have been replaced by Apple. Because of this, i had to do reset the charging-box.

To be honest, the volume of the AirPods Pro "System Sounds" is the same (low battery, coupling, noise-cancellation-change). Those Sounds have been to loud on day one and are still to loud, no matter what i do. Is there any way how to change them by purpose, or is for those sounds one standard-loudness (which is maybe just to loud for a sensible person like me?)

Take care

Florian
