Do I need to put my credit card details back onto my son's Apple ID to get a refund? or can apple see this on Family Sharing? I have removed my Credit Card Details from this Apple ID. I am his mother. Without permission he has spent over $3000 AU

My son has spent over $3k online without permission and I'd like to see what my chances are of getting some money back? I'm not entirely sure after deleting my Credit Card Details off his ipad and phone whether I need to put these pack onto his Apple ID for any refund or would apple be able to see that I am the Family member in charge of sharing? I was not privy to the expenditure until I looked up Apple on my Credit card. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is a lot of money.

To "Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple" click on this link --> https://support.apple.com/HT204084

After you request a refund you'll receive a status update by email within 48 hours. If your request is granted, the money is returned to the payment method you used. The time it takes for the money to appear on your account or statement depends on the payment method:

- Store credit (e.g., Apple ID balance): 48 hours

- Mobile phone billing (payment through your phone service carrier): Up to 60 days

- Other payment methods (e.g., credit/debit card): Up to 30 days for it to appear on a statement.

For apps and media you can also sign into https://reportaproblem.apple.com to check if the status of your item is "Refunded".

If you need to contact Apple about this, click on this link --> https://support.apple.com/choose-country-region/ and choose a path that gets assistance from Apple staff.

All I know is what that article says, but it would seem to me that if the payment method still exists then Apple should have no problem back-routing the funds to it, assuming they grant the refund. It might be different if the card had been cancelled and no longer existed, then they would likely issue a credit to the Apple ID account requesting the refund.

According to standard procedure the refund is made from the account making the purchases. Apple is pretty strict about people doing things with accounts that are nor theirs. If you have problems,
