CarPlay not recognizing Contacts for Mini Cooper SE Navigation

We have two iPhones running latest OS, 14.7.1.

CarPlay will show and operate in our 2022 electric Mini cooper, but it won't show the contacts in the on-board navigation system, which shows range, optimal and energy-saving routes, chargers, and other items of interest to electric car owners. Even when the car is not paired with CarPlay, a message appears and says, "Contacts Only Available through AppleCarPlay."

The dealer performed a Connected Drive Services update to the vehicle over the air, and confirmed that the car has the latest updates.

We have paired and deleted per the instructions at least 8 times over the course of the week.

Note: I can use the Apple Maps and Contacts, but this does not give the full range of useful information required by electric car drivers.
