I appear to have turned something off on my Mac. Before when I wanted to highlight something to delete of cut and past the area covered would show a blue strip, now it is only invisible . I can still carry out the function but do not have the hight light colour. please what to I turn on?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
