MacBook Pro M1 to LG UP850 via Display Port doesn't work.

Terrible situation since I try to connect MBP M1 to LG UP850 via Display Port and it doesn't work.

I got the message: No Signal. Please check your connection

And No Signal. Enter the power saving mode shortly.

I tried with LG Cable, Apple Thunderbolt cable and restart as some people mentioned. But it still does not work.

So, please help me to solve this problem.

to get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display. "No signal detected" is generated by the DISPLAY, not by the Mac.

This query is only sent at certain times:

• at startup

• at wake from sleep — so momentarily sleeping and waking your Mac may work

• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go

• on invoking Option-(Detect Display) button in Displays preferences (from another display)

so try doing some of those things and see if the display comes alive.

Modern Displays with multiple ports are sometimes busy scanning the other ports, looking for an input, and miss the query from the Mac. They need to pay attention to the port you are actually using, or they will miss the query.

Some displays have On-Screen Display settings that can be used to tell the display a computer is attached on a certain port, or a certain port should be highest priority. Changing those may make your display more responsive.

Some displays include their own private "sleep" settings for the display alone. This can allow the display to enter its own sleep mode, on top of the Mac's not sending it data. A display that is sleeping on its own cannot respond to the Mac's query, and will stay dark.

Ok so I just bought an m1 and a lg up850. Apparently from what I’ve been reading usb c cords come in different types and neither the one that came with the monitor or the apple charger cord is the correct cord to connect the m1 to this display.

I believe the issue should be resolved by getting a thunderbolt 4 usb c cord to connect to the display. Someone posted that their usb c cord from a Samsung ssd worked like a charm.

I’m literally about to buy this cord myself as I just setup my desk and was extremely frustrated when I got the no signal after trying every combination and troubleshooting step I could as well.

So fingers crossed that a different usb c cord will work. I’ll know in a few days.

Did you have success resolving the issue? There is a known problem with the M1 and external displays causing unexpected reboots. Sometimes two or three x a day. I’m about to throw my M1 MacBook into the trash I’m so frustrated. Apple support states I will have to wait for an update, who knows when, where they hope to resolve the issue.

I resolved the issue through getting an anker usb-c thunderbolt 4 cord.

not all usb-c cables are the same, 4’s are the most recent cable and they have an electric bolt symbol and the number 4 on them. The cord that came with the monitor and the apple charger usb-c cords are not capable of transmitting the audio/video required to use an external monitor with at least the M1 MacBooks and probably other more recent MacBooks as well.

all that being said, buy a thunderbolt 4 cord and it should resolve these issues.

hope that helps
