Wireless mouse issues.

Have a basic Verbatim Wireless Mini Travel Optical Mouse being used with a MacBook Air (late 2020). To connect the USB dongle, I'm utilizing a nonda 4-in-1 USB C Hub, USB C Adapter with 3 USB 3.0 Ports and 1 USB-C Charging Port, Thunderbolt 3 to USB Hub for MacBook Pro 2019/Air 2020, XPS.

The MacBook Air is currently running OS 10.15 (Catalina).

The issue I'm having is the mouse seems to stop working periodically. Not battery, as I've changed that out & the issue persists. Pulling the dongle out & switching USB ports on the nonda connector alleviates the situation for a while, then it returns.

I've tried using another mouse, but that doesn't seem to help. Could this be a connector issue? Is this just distance of the mouse from the dongle? Only connection option is the left side of the MacBook & I'm working right-handed. I've even changed out the mousepad as was concerned it wasn't reading that surface well.

Any help on this, especially if anyone else is experiencing it, would be appreciated.

Hi,

Thank you for keeping us posted. The Magic Mouse is an example of a wireless mouse that can connect directly to a MacBook Air without the need of a dongle.

Yes, the other mouse uses a Bluetooth dongle. It is a Nulea Dual Mode wireless mouse. Interesting, as I just went back to check it again & it will not connect at all on that MacBook Air. Tried restarting. Going to System Preferences. Nothing.

I do not know of a mouse that works without a dongle. Can you recommend any? I went to System Preferences again to see if the MacBook Air could detect the mouse in Discoverables, but nothing came up.

I used both available USC-C plugs in the nonda 4-in-1 USB C Hub, but there does not seem to be a difference. Something else interesting: the Verbatim Wireless Mini Travel Optical Mouse seems to be working fairly consistently right now. But this is the issue. It works for long spells & then cuts-out, gets jerky or just fails to operate. The issue is very inconsistent, which makes it very difficult to diagnose.

This is perhaps another issue. I went to try & start the MacBook in Safe mode, and it didn't happen. The computer just seems to start up regularly. I did follow the steps outlined for starting in Safe mode for an Intel machine, and tried multiple times. Wondering if this could possibly be indicating yet another problem.
