USB-C to DVI-D on 24" iMac

I have a new 24" iMac (running macOS 11.5.2) and an older BenQ FP9IV external monitor. I am using a DVI-D to USB-C adaptor. While this works most of the time it sometimes connects at 800 x 600 resolution instead of 1280 x 1024 when waking up the screen. I can get the right connection again by re-booting.

Anyone else seeing this issue? Any solutions?

You may never do better than 95% using that older DVI monitor.

At this point I can only suggest trying the iMac’s other USB-C port, trying a different USB-C to DVI adapter or getting and using a newer display.
