Brother has printer drivers for up to macOS Catalina 10.15 here:

The macOS Catalina printer drivers have been known to work with some other models even under macOS Big Sur, but that would be experimental.

Software conflicts cannot be ruled out when testing printer drivers. Make sure hat you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera) before you start.

If the device has a USB port on it then yes likely can be connected via USB. Please look for the system specifications for the product on Brothers web site. More importantly check to see what version(s) of Mac OS they support and what version of Mac OS you have installed on your computer.
