Hi,

The Brother MFC-J475DW is mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology, so the easiest way would be to connect the printer and the computer to a Wi-Fi router. In that case, an additional printer driver would not be required.

However, if you for some reason must use a USB connection, drivers will be needed. You do not say which macOS version is in use.

Begin by resetting the printing system. When adding the printer, check whether the operating system suggests a suitable driver.

Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support

The driver in Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support may or may not work (also depending on the operating system version).

Brother has printer drivers for up to macOS Catalina 10.15 here:

https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us_ot&lang=en&prod=mfcj475dw_us_as&os=10060

The macOS Catalina printer drivers have been known to work with some other models even under macOS Big Sur, but that would be experimental.

Software conflicts cannot be ruled out when testing printer drivers. Make sure hat you have backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera) before you start.
