The red button on mac is similar to yellow

The red button on mac is similar to yellow, what is its purpose?

I want to close a tab and as I click on the red x, it basically does the same function as of the yellow one.

If the software was minimized and was starting afresh it would have still made sense but red or yellow both do the same function.

But in some cases pressing the red button closes the window but in most of the software red button minimizes the window.

I really expect better from a mac device.

What application?

Are you sure that the window is being minimized and not closed?

If you click the yellow button, the window is minimized to the Dock, but if you click the red one it is closed completely.

Some people are under the impression that clicking the red button is the same as quitting the application, just as it does in MS Windows. That is true ONLY for single window applications- eg it works that way for System Preferences, but NOT for Finder, Safari, Preview or even MS Word.
