Apple Mail login failed but Microsoft Outlook logins okay

Why does Apple Mail not work with the same parameters Microsoft Outlook does work? I copied and pasted all of the parameters but Apple Mail says "Trying to login to the IMAP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct." I have deleted and reentered the account in Apple Mail. It still does not work.
