Intercom only works from one homepod

Why can one homepod intercom another, but not the reverse?

In the Home app tap the Home icon > Home Settings > Intercom then scroll down to HomePod and make sure that each HomePod is enabled. Toggle the switches off and on again if they already appear to be set correctly.

HomePod Intercom not working. First, all devices in my home are up to date including my new HomePod. I can use the intercom from a device (iPhone and iPads) and it plays on the HomePod but not other devices. Most troublesome is when I use Intercom from HomePod, no devices receive the message. All Apple Support links provide the most basic instructions for setup (which have been done repeatedly) but provide no troubleshooting or additional direction. All devices are checked to ‘Anywhere’, have most current software updates (14.3), and names have been toggled. Any ideas are welcome.

HomePod mini intercom I’m new to HomePod mini, can I ask HomePod mini to intercom/connect to my other devices. I’ve tried and Siri says, no other devices connected.

I had done that with the new HomePod I added, but not with the old one. Toggling off and on fixed it. Thank you
