Yosemite to Catalina on MacBook Pro 2012

I am upgrading my mid 2012 MacBook Pro after a malware issue so I can install Malware Bytes latest vers which requires Sierra or higher. I thought I'd upgrade to Catalina while I'm at it. I readi can skip and do Catalina without an intermediary.

I have the bootloader ready and have no back up set up for this which is fine. Is this a complete reinstall or simply an update of the OS. Any input would've appreciated before I attempt this. Thx

❗️ – IMPORTANT – Your 32-bit apps won’t work in Catalina.

✅ - Using Safari only, (wired internet connection preferably) download the macOS upgrade installer app:

Click > High Sierra, Mojave, or Catalina.

These downloads will place an upgrade installer in the Applications folder of your Mac. Double-click that to launch it and upgrade your system. This will be an in-place upgrade if all goes well and will not affect your user data.
